Last week I wrote about motorizing four new swing gates for a residence in a south suburban Chicago location. Today I want to discuss how the owners control and allow access to their property when the gates are closed.
Shown above in the left foreground is an Ascent cellular telephone entry system with a keypad from Summit Control. It is mounted on a goose neck pedestal supported by a concrete base. A relay is wired to and connects to the swing gate operator. A detailed close-up view is shown below to the left.
This system operates on the 4G LTE cellular network. This allows the homeowner to remotely manage and control one or two devices (in this case there are two swing gates) using either a computer, a tablet or even their smartphone. The owners can actually automatically view visitors via still photos from its high-definition camera.
Access can be granted (and the gate is opened) via voice, text, app, tablet/computer as well as the Ascent X1 control panel itself. The keypad and call button are conveniently lighted.
Up to one thousand separate codes can be programmed for controlled keypad entry. Also, two Wiegand inputs allow integration of a card swipe device as well.
Several phone numbers can be called when someone activates the call button. This makes connecting easier.
One impressive feature guards against opening the gate for long periods. Location based access control means someone must be within a defined distance away from the gate in order for it to be opened.
