Last week we wrote about our installing two Gibraltar crash-rated wedge barriers for a newly developed Chicago parking lot. ECI also installed three crashed-rated barrier gates as part of the installation. The customer supplied all of the equipment.
Shown above are tandem barrier gates at the dual lanes at the main entrance to the parking lot. Notice the guard booth in the center.
The image shown below to the left is a previously gated exit from the lot. The image on the right shows another Gibraltar crash-rated wedge barrier installed. This gate is 28 feet long.
These automatic barrier gates are powerful tools to counter terrorist attacks or potential violent intruder applications. Each is rated to meet M50 P1 or P2 ASTM (American Society for Testing and Materials International) F2656 test specifications.
The shorter barriers are 12.9 feet long and rated to withstand a 15,000 pound vehicle traveling at 50 miles per hour. They must allow P1 penetration of less than or equal to 3.3 feet.
The longer 28 foot barrier is rated to also withstand a 15,000 pound vehicle traveling at 50 miles per hour. The allowable P2 penetration for this barrier bar is between 3.3 and 23 feet.
Please make note of the stanchions which support the weight of the arms when they are in the closed (horizontal) position. Available options include red and green traffic control lights, photoelectric eyes, heaters and safety detectors.
As noted prior, ECI was given just a very short timeline to complete the installation. We were able to manage the operation and meet the customer’s satisfaction.
