Last month I wrote about the installation of a single B&B-ARMR automatic gate beam barrier bar. This was for the warehouse loading dock lane at a Vernon Hills, IL location.
ECI also furnished and installed two of the same anti-terrorist vehicle barriers for the dual entry and exit lanes to the office and parking lot. The final installation is pictured above. Once again this was part of a complete turnkey installation.
The photos below show stages of the construction sequence and some details I wished to point out to you.
Pictured to the left is a concrete pour after the extensive excavation work and framing that was needed as well as the placement and alignment of the drive stanchion support. One of the I-beams is being lowered into place at the right.
I also wanted to show the detailed concrete work on the island separating the lanes as well as the protective security bollards on the left below. You see the relative width and size of the heavy steel anti-terrorist I-beam in the foreground of the image on the right.
These B&B-ARMR automatic gate beam barrier bars protect against aggressive vehicle terrorist attempted access. They are mainly used at high-risk access points. Each is K4 DOS certified rated and can withstand a 15,000-pound vehicle that is traveling up to 30 miles per hour.
The I-beam gate arm is raised and lowered from the drive stanchion support using hydraulics because of the weight . When in the closed, or vertical position, it rests on the receiver stanchion. Energy from a violent impact is transmitted to the concrete foundation that supports the stanchions.
For additional security, an electro-magnetic lock was included in the installation for times when the location is closed and unattended. Arm lengths range from 12 feet to a maximum of 18 feet for automatic operation and 16 feet for manually operated arms. Push-button controls and a manual crank (for non-power operation) are also standard. LED flasher lighting kits and heater kits are optional equipment.
