Late last year ECI delivered and installed this massive 16,000 pound steel guard booth (picture above) for an auto group located in Matteson, Illinois. The 12′ x 24′ security booth was manufactured by Par-Kut International in nearby Michigan in this custom steel grey color.
This was the day before Thanksgiving, 2019. It was especially challenging with wind gusts in the area up to 50 mph. We needed to rent a large 30-ton crane (shown to the left) just to remove the guard booth from the flatbed. Then two forklifts were used to crab walk the booth into the sheltered area.
There was a further challenge. We had to set the 16,000 lb guard booth perfectly in place to enable its proper positioning at two electrical conduits installed beforehand. One panel is used for high voltage while the other one is used for communications. The entire process took over two hours to complete.
As previously mentioned, these booths and shelters can be used both inside and outside to protect employees and equipment. They are used in parking access and revenue control applications and smaller versions are commonly seen on tollways.
Guard shelters and booths come in various sizes and finishes and can be installed flat on a surface, slightly elevated and even high above the ground (i.e. prisons and jails). Heating, ventilation and air-conditioning units are available and restrooms can be included. The above unit does have dual mounted rooftop HVAC units.
