Last year ECI was asked to replace a slide gate controller for a lot at Union Pacific Railroad in Chicago. The (existing) slide gate with the new electric slide gate controller (black box) and protective security bollards are shown in the picture above.
Pictured to the left is Nice/HySecurity‘s SlideSmart DC™ commercial slide gate operator during the installation process. It is mounted on a pedestal base. This controller can move a 1,500 lb gate up to 40 feet and works on back up batteries in case of power loss. (Note: Both standard and extended life batteries are available.) For remote locations solar power can be used. A set of photo-electric eyes are included with the controller.
Pictured below to the right is a new vehicle detector loop also installed at Union Pacific Railroad. The concrete was saw cut and the detector loop embedded. You might notice the track running back to the slide gate controller and the detailed finish work.
When the vehicle loop detector detects a vehicle in its area, a relay is sent to the slide gate controller to open the gate. Once the vehicle clears another vehicle loop detector or set of photo-electric beams (one shown on the brick, mid-lower right above) on the exterior side of the gate, a relay is sent to the slide gate controller to close the gate.
The security bollards help protect against accidental damage from a vehicle to the slide gate controller.
