Barrier Gates for Reversible Access-Egress Lane

Barrier Gates for Reversible Access-Egress Lane

Earlier this year I wrote in this blog “New Automatic Barrier Gates For Multi-Level Parking Garage”. I described our work at dual access and egress lanes for a multi-level parking garage in a near northwest Chicago suburb in the article. We replaced some old automatic barrier gates and added vehicle detector loops as well as protective bollards.

I’ve never written about reversible lanes prior to this. But this same location now has several reversible lanes which at times can act as either an access or egress lane depending on the schedule and traffic volume. One of those reversible parking lot lanes is shown above in its final configuration. Its appearance and functionality are quite different from the original installation shown below.

Previously the lane was access only. To make it reversible we moved the access control reader and installed a new automatic barrier gate inside the garage itself. The gate has an articulating arm for the low garage ceiling.

In making the lane reversible we added a new reader and automatic barrier gate (shown to the right in the top image). We also added the protective bollards as well as the vehicle detector loops.

Notice the green entry arrow on the left. It indicates that the lane is open for access. The barrier bar in the foreground would be in the horizontal (closed) position and the sign will show a red ‘X’ when the lane is to be used for egress only.

We used Magnetic’s Parking Pro automatic barrier gates for this installation. Models can control lanes up to 12 feet wide. They are available in numerous colors other than the white shown here. Several options are available including breakaway flanges which detach the arm in case of extreme collision, lighting options to illuminate the barrier arms, heaters, battery backup, etc.
