Last week I wrote that ECI recently furnished and installed a new slide gate operator for the Village of Rolling Meadows’ Public Works Department. We furnished and installed a Nice/HySecurity SlideSmart™ HD25 Slide Gate Operator. You can read the article at: “New HySecurity HD25 Sliding Gate Operator in Rolling Meadows.”
We also had to bring the gate up to compliance with UL325 standards. These standards address safety issues related to the automatic operation of various opening and closing appliances, including sliding gates. The standards aim to prevent accidents and ensure public safety by setting requirements for construction, installation and operation.
Some of the requirements we addressed included covering exposed weight-bearing rollers and pinch points that were less than eight feet above grade. We installed new gate rollers with covers (as pictured above). Another benefit of the new sealed rollers is they help to extend the gate’s operation. They provide a far smoother, less stressful, overall operation.
The new gate operator also has inherent current sensing. Here a sensor monitors the electrical current. If it detects an abnormality in the current, it provides feedback to the gate controller to take appropriate action. This could be stopping the gate from moving or even alerting maintenance personnel.
In addition, we provided new “fabric” in the tail of the gate to prevent reach through. (See before and after images below.) In this case we provided chain link fencing material to match the existing. Fabric can also be chicken wire or mesh.
