Automatic Swing Gate Operator for Residence

Automatic Swing Gate Operator for Residence

Last year ECI was called in to motorize four new gates for a residence in a south suburban Chicago location. The image above shows one of the gates (left facing the street) with a Viking Access Systems G-5 Swing Gate Operator installed on the lower edge of this driveway gate.

The images shown below are during construction and prior to the swing gates being installed. Two brick framed (left) and block faced (right) columns were constructed at both driveway entrances to the property.

Notice the unfinished tops. On one of the columns you can see conduit protruding that will connect power to the light fixtures. We tapped into the same power for the swing gate operators.

Here are additional images from the completed installation as a comparison to the before images above.

The black boxes mounted near the bottom of each column are photoelectric beams. These are safety devices meant to stop and reverse gate movement in case someone or something is interrupting the circuit.

You can’t see them, but there are pre-formed vehicle detector loops in the pavement. Free exit is allowed when a vehicle is detected.

Entrance is gained by using a telephone app or by visitors calling from a telephone entry system (not pictured). I’ll discuss that on my next blog article.

These swing gate operators are compact but powerful. They are designed to handle swing gates up to 18 feet long that weigh up to a ton.

The high efficiency motors are water resistant. Each operator can be precisely adjusted for positive stop positions. The break away joint separates from the gate in case of accidental impact and this reduces the overall damage. Battery backup is included, with options for additional capacity.
