UIC Harrison Street Parking Structure Entry
ECI is nearing completion of an installation of a parking access revenue and control system (PARCS) for UIC’s (University of Illinois at Chicago) parking facilities. This nearly year long project encompasses 120 lanes of vehicle access equipment. According to the UIC Campus Parking Map, there are six (multi-level) parking structures and 36 parking lots on campus.

Complete PARCS Systems
WPS ParkAdvance™ platform is the primary source of equipment. The system includes barrier gates, access and revenue control software, parking entry terminals, parking exit terminals, pay on foot terminals, etc. Transcore‘s automated vehicle identification readers were installed to read vehicle identification tags using radio frequency technology. Vehicle detection loops were added and integrated into the system.
Pre-existing separate magnetic stripe card access systems were successfully integrated into the WPS software. The project also integrated guard booths which were furnished by Porta-King Building Systems and previously installed by ECI.
According to the Website, UIC is “an acclaimed research institution with 15 colleges”. It was formed in 1982 when two University of Illinois campuses were consolidated. These were the Medical center campus and the Chicago Circle campus. The former dates from the 19th century; the later replaced Navy Pier in 1965.
The university is located on Chicago’s near west side just south and west of the loop at (main address) 1200 West Harrison Street. It is separated into an east and west section within the neighborhood. Buildings and parking lots stretch from just west of the Dan Ryan expressway to almost Oakley Street. The northern border is the Dwight D. Eisenhower Expressway (Interstate 290) and the furthest building is just south of 15th street. This covers over a two square mile area.
