We first reported on these new vertical pivot lift gates for Midways Airport’s FAA Tower area here in late September at “Vertical Pivot Lift Gates For FAA Tower At Midway Airport“. Here is the video we promised at that time which shows the gates’ smooth operations within a limited space configuration.
First we see the gate at the south parking lot as it pivots 90 degrees to its open position. Next the gate pivots closed at the south parking lot. The final clip shows the gate at the north parking lot pivoting closed. These gates are supplied by AutoGate.
Vertical pivot lift gates are usually installed where space is limited and we can not use swing gates or sliding gates. Standard widths for the gates are 20 and 24 feet. The former are made from steel and the latter are made of aluminum. Designs may be selected from a field of 10 with various options available.
The operators will open (or close) the gate within 12 seconds. Back up power supplies offer up to 72 hours of usage.

How much does a gate like that cost?
Thanks for your comment.
