Doorking 1837 Telephone Entry and Access Control

Doorking 1837 Telephone Entry and Access Control

Last week I wrote about a turnkey installation for a residential gated community in a far western Chicago suburb. We installed automatic barrier gates (two are shown above), concrete mounting pads, vehicle detector loops and all electrical work.

Today I was to write about the telephone access system, access reader and dual goose neck pedestal mounts that completed the installation.

A Doorking® 1837 Telephone Entry System on a white post is pictured above and to the left foreground. An AWID (Wiegand) access control card reader is shown to the right.

The reader is for residents and other regular authorized visitors and service people. Visitors use the telephone entry system to look up the house they are visiting to gain access through the barrier gates.

ECI also supplied the concrete post, electrical work and connections. A similar equipment installation was furnished at a second access point.

The Doorking® system can accommodate up to 3000 names and phone numbers and 8000 device codes. The display shows up to eight lines (residences) at a time with up to 20 characters each for easy selection. The system is PC programmable with free software and can also be programmed from a computer, tablet or smartphone (optional).

To gain access a visitor selects the residents’ name from the directory listing by using the alpha keys. Once selected a visitor presses the call button. The house or cell phone is called. The homeowner answers and is connected to the intercom. He/she then presses a key to relay the gate which opens and allows access.

The AWID proximity reader has a long read long range of 18-24 inches. Those with authorized valid access control cards drive up and present their existing credentials to open an entry gate.
