New K12 Sliding Gate - Chicago Locks

New K12 Sliding Gate – Chicago Locks

Last month I introduced you to some extensive work we recently did at the Chicago Harbor Locks. My story was entitled “Crash Rated Fencing and Sliding Gate | Chicago Locks Part 1”. It focused on a portion of the K12 fencing and person gate adjacent to the waterway.

Later in the month I shared two videos from the manufacturer’s (Ameristar / Assa Abloy) YouTube channel to show part of the manufacturing process. That story was called “Anti-Ram Barriers Plus High-Security Heavy Steel Fencing”.

Above is a picture of the massive K-12 rated sliding gate that was installed as part of the project. The heavy metal beam that is attached across the sliding gate gives it the K-12 rating. This configuration replaced the cyclone fence gate (shown at the lower left) that was previously installed at this location.

Almost 450′ of K-12 rated fencing and three person gates were installed along with the sliding gate. The remainder of the installation
included concrete columns encasing security bollards.

Here the objective was to replace the old cyclone fencing with high-security protection. This in order to prevent vehicles from crossing over onto the property and the locks from the Navy Pier side..
