Earlier this year ECI was called to a North Shore Chicago residence for an interesting security application. We furnished and installed the two Manual Retractable Bollards from 1-800-Bollards shown above. This was to provide additional security for high-value vehicles stored in the owner’s mancave.
As shown to the left, the installation involved cutting the concrete floor and boring down approximately 36 inches. We added rebar, installed the bollards, checked alignment and added the concrete. This was done prior to the floor being painted and coated.
These bollards are available in two types of steel:
- carbon steel that is powder-coated in yellow or black
- and stainless steel.
Operation of the bollards is pretty straightforward. The manual retractable design allows for quick deployment and retraction, making it easy to manage access as needed.
The user inserts a key into the recessed lock on the bollard. The user pulls on the integrated lift handle at the top of the unlocked bollard. This raises the bollard out of its base and secures it in an upright position where it acts as a physical barrier to control vehicle access. To retract the bollard, the user simply unlocks it again and pushes down on the handle to lower it back into its base.
Manual bollards are ideal for properties that need periodic access control without the need for constant monitoring. They offer a cost-effective solution for low-security applications where occasional access is needed.
In contrast, automatic bollards powered by hydraulic or electric systems provide enhanced security features suitable for high-traffic areas requiring robust control measures. These can be integrated with advanced security systems, such as access control, cameras and alarms, enhancing overall protection.
Manual retractable bollards are not limited to residential settings, they can be effectively utilized in various environments:
- Businesses and commercial properties can use these bollards to manage traffic flow, protect outdoor dining areas or create temporary barriers during events.
- They can restrict access to parking areas during off-hours, protecting vehicles from theft or vandalism.
- Parks and recreational areas can benefit from these bollards by controlling vehicle access during specific times or events.
- Equipment and materials can be secured from theft or damage at construction sites entry points.
