Vehicle Access Control UIC Lot M

Vehicle Access Control UIC Lot M

Last year ECI was called to the University of Illinois Chicago Campus for another project, this time at Lot M. The completed turnkey project is shown to the left.

The existing concrete island at this parking lot had deteriorated and needed to be replaced. We first removed all the vehicle access control equipment and stored it until the new island was completed and we could reinstall all of the equipment. Next, we broke out and removed all of the old concrete.

We formed a new island (shown below) and installed new electrical. We then poured the new concrete, including four new bollards to protect the equipment. All previous access control equipment was reinstalled including two Elka automatic barrier gates, a WPS ParkAdvance™ access controller as well as new vehicle detector loops.

We added two Transcore Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) readers. These are shown on the extended pole arms above the lanes. They read authorized vehicle tags that can be mounted on windshields, headlamps and license plates. Hang tags can also be attached to rear view mirrors.

I first wrote about the extensive work ECI did on this campus in late 2017. The installation of their parking access revenue and control system (PARCS) took nearly a year. It included automatic barrier gates, access and revenue control software, entry terminals, exit terminals, pay on foot terminals, AVI readers and tags, vehicle detection loops, bollards, electrical work, etc. At the time there were six (multi-level) parking structures and 36 parking lots on campus.
