Lutheran General Hospital Opened Barrier Gate

Last year ECI installed new barrier gates for Lutheran General Hospital (now part of Advocate Health Care) in Park Ridge, IL. The hospital added some floors to their parking garage which included nested parking for physicians.

Nested parking is an exclusive, separately controlled access parking area within a larger parking facility. The larger area may or may not be access controlled. Only physicians with special access control credentials are permitted to park their vehicles in this new designated nesting area.

Two new MicroDrive barrier gates from Magnetic Automatic Corporation were installed with articulating booms (because of ceiling height limitations). The images show one barrier gate in the open position and then in the closed position. One barrier gate was installed at the entry lane, the other at the exit lane. These barrier gates are specifically designed for high traffic areas.

Other MicroDrive options include boom lengths from 12 to 32 feet, micro (shorter) booms with (fencing) skirts below and optional fencing above to prevent climb over as well as toll barrier gates. LED lighting strips, boom lighting, signage extensions, traffic lights and their controls are additional options.

Two vehicle detector loops were also installed at each barrier gate. At the entry lane the first vehicle detector loop turns on the access control reader. When proper credentials are presented, the barrier gate opens. Once the vehicle enters the second vehicle detector loop area, a relay is thrown to close the barrier gate.

As a vehicle enters the first vehicle detector loop at the exit lane, a relay opens the barrier gate. After driving past the gate and clearing the area, the gate is closed via another relay.

You can actually see the darker gray cut marks in the concrete pavement where one of the vehicle detector loops was installed. Please note the protective bollards installed to help prevent accidental damage from vehicles.
